Two arrests were made Friday morning, July 24, after a burglary attempt which failed to get off the ground. According to the official media report from the Madera Department of Corrections, Nathaniel Morales, 19, and Joseph Enriquez, 18, were arrested by Madera Police and booked for criminal conspiracy and attempted burglary, as well as resisting arrest. They were both booked in the early morning hours of Friday after being arrested during the night.

According to the Madera Police, the two young men, who are both from Fresno, about 20 miles south of Madera, broke a window to the BK Pharmacy on 4th Street. The BK Pharmacy is not one of the large commercial pharmacies like Rite Aid or Walgreens, but a smaller outlet located in the Madera Business Park that deals only in prescription and over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, rather than also operating as a general store. The pair were apparently after the cough syrup Promethazine with Codeine.

After they had broken the window, however, Madera Police Officer Anaya spotted them. Calling for backup, the officer chased and captured Enriquez. Other responding officers had a tougher chase before they finally apprehended Morales, who was a bit more fleet of foot.

Both teens report being unemployed when they were booked into the Madera Department of Corrections, and were later released on $45,000 bail. Had Enriquez been caught just two days prior, he would have been sent to Juvenile Hall as a 17-year-old minor.
