Fresno man charged in deadly traffic accident

A Fresno resident has been arrested after a fatal traffic accident in Madera. George Gonzales, 34, was charged with one count of vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence in the death of an unidentifed Madera resident. The incident occurred on the morning of Friday, February 20, and the arrest was reported at 8:57 that morning.

Gonzales is not believed to have been in any way intoxicated or under the influence of any substances. He was found to be sound in mind, and the trash was called a tragic accident. Madera Police did warn drivers of heavy fog that morning, which may have contributed to the accident.

According to the Madera County Department of Corrections, who held him and made the arrest, Gonzales is a traffic maintenance worker. Bail was set at $5,000 for the offense, which is categorized as a misdemeanor. No word has been released on whether the victim’s family will pursue charges of wrongful death.
