Following High-Speed Pursuit, Vacaville PD Arrests Gang Members

Two known gang members led the police on a wild high speed chase before they were finally captured on July 11.

At approximately 11 am that morning, a detective assigned to the Vacaville PD Crime Suppression Team on patrol near the corner of Davis Street and Alamo Drive noted the license plate tags on a gold Cadillac had expired. The detective switched on his emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the Cadillac.

The driver, later identified as Maurice Darnell Jones, 18, of Vacaville, instead hit the gas and hauled, leading the detective and patrol officer reinforcements down Marshall Road, and turning south on Nut Tree Road. According to a Vacaville PD press release, the chase ended when Jones, after hitting estimated speeds upwards of 70 mph, swerved to avoid another motorist and collided with a fence. It was past Bel Aire and near Woodridge where he crashed.

As police approached the Cadillac, someone inside threw a stolen semi-automatic pistol out through one of the Cadillac’s windows. Jones’ sole passenger was subsequently identified as Daniel Carranza, 18, another Vacaville resident.

Jones was arrested on charges of evading police with disregard for the public’s safety and possession of a stolen firearm. Carranza was busted for possible possession of a stolen firearm.
