Father is One of Three Arrested After Shooting Two, Including His Own Daughter

BAKERSFIELD — A father who shot two people, including his own daughter, is behind bars following an altercation in east Bakersfield on Friday night.

Edgardo Acosta 36, is facing charges of attempted murder, child endangerment and negligent discharge of a firearm. He, along with the girl’s stepmother, 35-year-old Lissette Navarro and 19-year-old Jose Licea, were all booked into the Kern County Jail. Navarro is being charged for assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment, while Licea was booked for battery.

According to deputies from the Kern County Sheriff’s Office the incident began when Acosta, Navarro and his 13-year-old daughter, went to break up a fight between Licea and another male subject in the 3200 block Kentucky Street at around 7:40 p.m. on July 18.

Navarro assaulted Licea with a baseball bat, then Acosta  fired a shot from a handgun which struck another 27-year-old man, and his daughter, in the head. Both victims were transported to Kern Medical Center.
