Family Fight leads to Juvenile Jail Time

Mother Was Attacked By Her Daughter

CARMEL VALLEY—The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year-old juvenile after it was reported that she tried to strangle her mother for taken away her laptop computer.  I know of someone that got a lump of coal in her stocking for Christmas.

On December 21, The Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies were called to a home in Carmel Valley.  Upon their arrival, Robin Schoenfield stated to them that her 17-year-old daughter had attacked her.

She told Deputies that her daughter wanted the laptop computer that she had taken away from her. She said her daughter had gotten a knife and was holding it in a threatening manner. Schoenfield tried to escape by running to a different room, but her daughter ran after her and was able to get a t-shirt around her mother’s neck and choke her with it.

She also used an ‘arm bar’ style chokehold on her mother. There was visible evidence, but medical treatment was declined. The 17-year-old juvenile had also prevented her mother from calling the police by taking the cordless phone.

The juvenile fled the area after the incident, but was found by deputies and detained. She declined to give a statement after being arrested. A Dell Inspiron Laptop, valued at $400.00 was found in her backpack. She was lodged in to the Monterey County Juvenile Hall in Salinas. Upon the daughter’s arrest an emergency protective order (EP0) was issued. She was released to the custody of Child Protective Services and another parent.
