Driver Arrested, Passenger Hospitalized, in DUI Wreck

The Paso Robles Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated after he drove his car off the road injuring the passenger last Sunday.

According to PRPD, officers and members of the Department of Emergency Services responded to a vehicle-injury crash on westbound Highway 46 East just west of Golden Hill Road. It was a single vehicle accident.

Police and emergency workers discovered a vehicle approximately 20 feet down the hill. The vehicle was entangled in chain link fence.

After the fence was cut away firefighter and paramedics were able to extricate the critically-injured passenger,  Andrew Phillip Kunz , 19, of Paso Robles, from the wreck. The passenger was sent to Sierra Vista Trauma Center in San Luis Obispo.

The driver, who was treated and released at the scene, was able to get out of the vehicle on his own.

Investigators say the vehicle was traveling westbound on Highway 46 East and left the road for unknown reasons and collided with an oak tree.

The driver, Isaac Daniel Byers, 22, of Paso Robles was booked into the SLO County Jail.
