Domestic battery goes unabated in third relationship for serial abuser

SAN JOSE – 26-year-old Junior Valverde was arrested on a domestic violence charge under PC 273.5(f) on Sunday, April 26. A hearing was held in court while Valverde was being held on a $50,000 bail. This is the third time Valverde is facing a felony charge in which domestic violence has occurred and Valverde was responsible for an injury resulting in a traumatic condition.

The female victim had called police and told dispatchers that she was a victim of domestic violence, and then hung up the phone. After several calls the SJPD were able to locate the victim, who they found in the kitchen of her apartment mopping the floor. She reportedly said she was mopping up the blood from Valverde hitting her in the nose.

Valverde and his girlfriend had been living together for two years, and had a child in common. The suspect reportedly grabbed his girlfriend’s hand after she nudged him to get his attention when someone was knocking on the door. He had grabbed her hand so hard that he crushed it, causing severe bruising and a swollen middle finger. Valverde then hit her in the face.

Valverde was under a court order from a previous relationship in which Valverde was accused of domestic abuse causing great injury and/or harm to the victim. He reportedly told the victim that “he was going to kill her”, and that he was “tired of her [redacted]” as he poured a bottle of water over her, after knocking her to the ground with a hit to her face. She stated that she had never retaliated against Valverde because she was scared of him.

Valverde’s latest victim told officers that she was repeatedly abused by the suspect, who would grab her arm and use his fingernails to pinch her skin and cause her pain. Officers performed a lethality assessment, in which a number of questions are asked in order to conduct a review of the risk of death that may be posed against the victim.

During the incident it was determined that Valverde was on probation for two prior domestic violence incidents. He was arrested on October 30, 2013, and on July 2, 2014. He was charged with public intoxication in that incident as well. He was also charged on November 29, 2013 with DUI and driving without a license.

Valverde was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for probation violations and new charges of felony domestic abuse. He is also being charged with PC 422, threats of violence. The next court date has been scheduled for May 26 at 9:00 AM in Dept 45 in front of the Honorable Charles E. Wilson.
