Criminal on Probation Sees a Sign in Petaluma

PETALUMA – Some see a sign and change their ways. Others see a sign and decide to make it their own.

Earlier this morning, Wednesday October 15 at approximately 1:30 am, a Petaluma police officer was on patrol in the vicinity of Lakeville Highway when he spotted a 1990 Volkswagen van attempting to tow a traffic message board trailer from a highway construction site near Highway 101.

The officer commenced a traffic stop on the driver of the van as the electronic sign board was clearly identifiable as the property of Ghillotti Brothers Construction Company. The driver yielded and pulled over but then attempted to flee on foot.

The suspect was warned by the officer that he would let loose his K-9 if he continued to attempt an escape. The suspect stopped and was then taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 45-year-old William L. Kazakoff, a resident of Healdsburg. Kazakoff is currently on probation out of Sonoma County and had been directed to obey all laws and maintain good conduct. Kazakoff was transported to Sonoma County Jail.
