Couple Arrested after Shots Fired in Oceanside Target Store

A man suspected of firing shots inside a Target store in Oceanside was arrested by the California Highway Patrol (CHP) after a pursuit the following day.

Oceanside police reported that Dennis Lam, 28, was captured in the Silverado Canyon area near Irvine the morning of June 12. Oceanside police said Lam and his companion, Ann Molina, 26, were “apprehended following a pursuit and subsequent carjacking by the California Highway Patrol in Orange County.”

The incident began the afternoon of Thursday, June 11 when Lam was approached by security guards at a Target Store on El Camino Real in Oceanside on suspicion of shoplifting. Oceanside police said Lam was cooperative initially but later allegedly pulled a gun and fired shots into the ceiling. In the confusion that followed, Lam and a companion left the store and drove off in a black, late-model BMW. Police said nobody was injured in the shooting.

At 6:51 a.m. on June 12, CHP officers approached a parked car on the 133 toll road in Orange County in which two people were sleeping. According to published reports, Lam was the driver of the car and sped off when a CHP officer approached the vehicle. During the subsequent pursuit, Lam’s vehicle crashed into another car and the pair ditched the black BMW. Lam then carjacked a man at gunpoint on Santiago Canyon Road, taking is Ford F-150. A second chase ensued and ended when Lam drove down a dead-end road, leading to the couple’s arrest at 7:45 a.m. The were charged on suspicion of evading, hit and run, and carjacking.
