The San Jose Police Department had issued an arrest warrant for a suspect identified as 24-year-old Alfredo Aldape of Gilroy, who was known to have committed two felony burglaries within the San Jose city limits. But it wasn’t until Tuesday of this week that authorities were able to identify Aldape as staying at a friend’s house near the 100 block of Manor Court near Del Monte Avenue in neighboring Morgan Hill.

Officers arrived at the home around 1:00 in the afternoon to talk to residents, and find out who was staying in the home. They confirmed to officers that Aldape was inside. Police asked neighbors to shelter in place, and some to leave their homes to avoid being in immediate danger if the suspect refused to exit the home. The officers used a loudspeaker to ask the suspect to leave the house peacefully.

Morgan Hill Police had also used social media and other ways to communicate with residents in order to warn them about the situation.

A SWAT team of Morgan Hill and Gilroy Officers was eventually called to the scene at around 6:00 PM, to work with the suspect to try and have him exit the residence peacefully.

“After a 7-hour standoff, where the suspect was given multiple commands to come out, he later came out and was taken into custody and turned over to the San Jose Police Department,” Morgan Hill Police Sergeant Carson Thomas said.

According to authorities, the suspect remained in the home for a total of nearly 12 hours before resigning to come out of the home peacefully. Aldape was subsequently taken into custody without injury.

The suspect was later booked into the Santa Clara County Jail for each warrant. Aldape had also been arrested a year earlier, in June of 2014 by Morgan Hill police on charges of possession and being under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and burglary tools.

Prior to that, in July of 2013, he was charged with possession of marijuana and resisting arrest. In August of 2012, while living in Morgan Hill and reporting his full name as Alfredo Aldape-Guerrero, he was arrested in Gilroy for stealing a vehicle, and possession of burglary tools and the stolen car. He was pulled over and arrested in rural southeast Gilroy, near the corner of Bloomfield Avenue and Frazier Lake Road.
