According to Bakersfield Police Detective Ted King, 16-year-old Zachary Mapp admitted to the crimes in Bakersfield after being arrested in Stockton and questioned by detectives for a similar offense on August 2, 2013.

The first incident in Bakersfield occurred on July 31, at about 1130 a.m., when Mapp allegedly entered the Verizon Wireless Store located at 10900 Stockdale Highway.

Upon entering, he began to place active phones and tablets into his clothing and fled the business without paying.

Prior to leaving, police said Mapp allegedly  threatened to assault employees with pepper spray.

Later that day, at about 12:16 p.m., a suspect matching Mapp’s description entered the Verizon Wireless store located at 1220 Oak Street, and once again placed active phones and tablets into his clothing and fled the business without paying.

The case has been referred to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office, who will charge Mapps with burglary and robbery.
