The night of August 15, Lorysha Gage, 25, took her 2-year-old niece, Mi-Yana, and Mi-Yana’s twin brother to a movie in downtown San Francisco. After the movie let out, at around 10:30 p.m., Gage and the two children were heading for the parking garage on Mission Street between Fourth and Fifth Streets. According to the press release, Gage and the girl started to cross the busy intersection there against the signal. As Gage and Mi-Yana were halfway across the street, Gage turned back to retrieve Mi-Yana’s brother, who was still at the curb, leaving the little girl in the middle of the intersection. A vehicle traveling eastbound on Mission struck and killed the girl and continued driving away from the scene. It is not clear if the driver knew he or she hit the girl.

Police released this surveillance image of the car that hit Mi'Yana as she stood alone in the crosswalk.

Police are asking for the public’s help in locating the vehicle and the driver. A surveillance camera near the scene captured an image of the vehicle. According to SFPD Public Information Officer, Albie Esparza, “The vehicle is described as a white mid 90s four door sedan, either a Camry, Honda, or Lexus, with a dark colored mismatched front bumper and dark or black rims.”

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Francisco Police Department. If this vehicle is seen on the road, please call 911. Anonymous tips can be made at 415-575-4444.
