An Officer Involved Shooting Kills a Meadow Vista Woman

A woman was shot and killed by a Placer County Sheriff’s Deputy after the deputy responded to a call involving a suicidal individual.

According to Placer County Sheriff’s Office, 44-year-old Tamala Anne Satre was killed in the Thursday, July 23 incident. Events unfolded at about midnight after Auburn Police received a call from the Chico Police Department. Chico Police stated they were informed a woman living in Auburn had posted suicidal statements on her Facebook page.

The woman was identified as Satre. She had various addresses in Placer County associated with her name, which led Auburn police to seek the assistance of the Placer County Sheriff’s Office.

Information gathered led deputies to an address on Crystal Lane in Meadow Vista, the home of a friend of Satre’s. Meadow Vista is just north of Auburn along the Interstate 80 Freeway. Crystal Lane is a small one-lane road that runs through the forested area off Placer Hills Road.

A deputy arrived there at about 12:25 a.m. At that time, the woman was found standing at the back of the house. The deputy instructed the woman to show her hands. She then pulled out a .38-caliber handgun. The deputy responded by firing at the woman, killing her.

It was later discovered that Satre’s gun was loaded. The incident is currently being investigated by the Placer County District Attorney’s Office and The Placer County Sheriff’s Office.
