Alleged pedophile arrested in sting

A man in Madera was arrested for alleged sex crimes and was brought in last Sunday, according to the Madera Sheriff’s Office. Brandon Stephen Johns, 29, was picked up and charged with one count of an out of county warrant, and ten counts of contact or communication with a minor with intent to commit a felony, including kidnapping, sexual assault or molestation, lewd acts, and other offenses. Johns, who resides in rural northeast Madera and lists his occupation as laborer, was booked at 6:23 pm on Sunday, April 12.

Johns was reportedly found at a Madera Hotel, and is accused of contacting a number of teenage girls via phone or on-line, trying to engage in sexually explicit conversations, and asking them to send him nude photos of themselves. Investigators have identified at least 46 victims, and he has used multiple aliases in his contacts with them.

Johns was arrested in February 2013 for similar circumstances. According to a Clovis Police press release, he was contacting girls under 18-year-old via Facebook, then texting them, sending them photos of himself, and calling for phone sex. He was arrested on February 26, and charged with committing lewd acts on children and making obscene phone calls.

Prior to those incidents, records show that Johns was arrested in July of 2007 for being under the influence of a controlled substance. He now faces jail time and lifetime sex offender registration if convicted. Bail has been set at $1,800,000
