Traveling Bank Robber Thwarted

BISHOP – A just-before-closing call from a bank employee immediately dispatched Bishop Police Department to the scene of a bank robbery. Arriving officers encountered a robbery-in-progress at El Dorado Savings Bank, on the 500 block of N. Main Street, at approximately 4:45 PM.

“Within moments, BPD set a perimeter while maintaining communication with the employee caller,” said BPD. An immediate assist from arriving Deputies and the CHP helped contain the area, and divert Friday-evening traffic on Main Street.

“BPD successfully extracted all employees to safety and then entered the bank,” said BPD. “58-year-old Sok Hong from Diamond Bar, CA was subsequently arrested without incident.”

Bishop PD has commended the bank employees for the way that they handled the event. No one was harmed.

The ongoing investigation has revealed that Mr. Hong had been traveling and – in advance – selected Bishop to rob a bank on Friday, 10/09/2020.

Anyone with information about Mr. Hong or this robbery is urged to stop by the BPD or telephone (760) 873-5866.
