On the night of October 17 the shot spotter was activated near Acosta Street and Sanborn Road.

Officers in the area heard from a “vigilant citizen” who directed them to a car involved in the gunfire.

After making contact with those in the car, officers spotted a loaded handgun magazine in the driver’s side door of the car.

A subsequent search produced an unregistered handgun. Further investigation, with K9 Oakley’s help, resulted in the discovery of a spent shell casing on Acosta Street.

As a result, 30-year-old Januario Ruiz was arrested and charged with “firearms related charges.”
