“The below investigations are part of the ongoing efforts of the Bakersfield Police Department and law enforcement partners to proactively disrupt and impact the cycle of gang violence affecting the community. These efforts are being combined with community outreach and preventative programs.
On October 9, 2020, at approximately 7:22 p.m., officers of the Bakersfield Police Department, attempted to conduct a vehicle code violation stop in the 1200 block of Bank Street. The vehicle failed to yield to officers and led them on a short vehicle pursuit. During the pursuit a loaded firearm was discarded from the vehicle.
The vehicle eventually yielded and Dontae Williams (36) and Christopher Beasley (31) were arrested for gang participation, felons in possession of a firearm and associated firearm charges involving their prohibited status.
On October 10, 2020, at approximately 6:49 p.m., officers of the Bakersfield Police Department responded to a report of a shooting at Yokuts Park, 4200 Empire Drive. Officers located approximately thirty (30) bullet casings in the park; however, did not locate any victims of the gunfire.
While conducting a follow-up investigation, officers responded to the 500 block of Butte Street. Two firearms were discarded when officers contacted a large group of subjects. Jaylen Woods (20) was arrested for gang participation and possession of an unregistered handgun. He was transported and booked into the Kern County Jail. The investigation into the Yokuts Park shooting is ongoing.
Anyone with information regarding these investigations are encouraged to call the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.”
