Transient Man Arrested for Attempted Murder in San Bernardino

A transient man has been arrested for attempted murder after threatening and attempting to harm several people in San Bernardino.

The incident took place at about 7:45 AM on October 1, 2020.  According to the release, the 29-year-old man, identified as Jose Rodriguez, “was swinging a large stick at a female” and tried to cut two other people “using a homemade sharp-edged weapon.”

Central Station deputies arrived at the scene, the dead end of Darby Street west of June Street, and got a description of the suspect from witnesses and victims present.  They located Rodriguez after searching the surrounding area and arrested him without incident.  He was charged with attempted murder and booked at Central Detention Center.  The suspect’s motive for his violent actions is not yet known.
