Rancho Cucamonga Woman Arrested for Filing False Claim Against the City

A woman has been arrested after allegedly forging documents and filing a false claim against the City of Rancho Cucamonga.

The suspect, 37-year-old Lardette Cole of Rancho Cucamonga, filed a $4,880.33 claim with the City of Rancho Cucamonga on August 27, 2020.  The claim alleged “damage occurred to her vehicle during a city street improvement project,” according to the news release.  City officials soon noticed discrepancies as they reviewed the documents Cole submitted, however, and reported Cole to the police for investigation.

“During the investigation, it was learned Cole used generic forms and images found on the internet to fabricate fraudulent invoices and photographs of the alleged damage,” the release states.  Police detectives notified the businesses that Cole had used their business likeness to create false documents for her claim, and the businesses were then listed as victims of document forgery.

Cole went to the City of Rancho Cucamonga offices to finalize her claim on September 16th, and Rancho Cucamonga deputies arrested her there.  She was subsequently booked at West Valley Detention Center on charges of perjury, document forgery, filing a false claim with a city government.

Cole was later released on her own recognizance.
