“During the 11 o’clock hour this morning, our office received a phone call of a male that had lit a stick on fire and threw it on the ground in the 600 block of S. Washington St. The reporting party extinguished the burning stick before it could start a fire.

Officers arrived on scene and contacted 30-year-old transient, Jesse Peterson. Peterson was ultimately arrested for arson during a state of emergency, which is a felony. Peterson was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail where he is currently being held.

We would like to thank the community partner for extinguishing the fire and contacting our office helping to prevent a catastrophic wild fire.

As a reminder, Tuolumne county is under a Red Flag Warning for critical fire growth potential until 8 PM on Wednesday. If you see a fire, please notify 911 immediately.”
