16-year-old arrested in fatal shooting of Olivehurst man

“On Monday 8/31/2020 at approximately 11:15 P.M., Yuba County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call requesting an ambulance for a gunshot victim in the 5500 block of South Gledhill Avenue in Olivehurst.

A 57-year-old Olivehurst man identified as Lonnie Long Jr, was transported to a local hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. Yuba County Sheriff Detectives responded and learned there had been a fight between a group of teenagers outside the victim’s residence.

The victim reportedly went outside to intervene and break up the fight, when he was shot. The involved juveniles fled the area prior to the arrival of deputies. After further investigation, Detectives identified the shooter as a 16-year-old Linda boy.

The suspect was located this morning at a residence in East Linda where he was detained and brought in for questioning before being arrested for Homicide and booked into Juvenile Hall.

The investigation remains active and ongoing at this time.”
