Traffic stop leads to arrest and a firearm charge

“On 09/06/20 at approximately 02:34 AM, officers were conducting routine patrol in the area of N Indian Canyon Drive & E San Rafael Drive and conducted a traffic stop for a violation of the vehicle code.

Officers contacted the occupants of the vehicle, one being the front passenger identified as Nicholas Gant of Palm Springs. Officers obtained consent to search the vehicle and subsequently located a loaded handgun under the front passenger seat. The handgun was determined to be stolen out of Moreno Valley.

The investigation connected Gant to the firearm, and Gant was taken into custody without incident.

Gant was booked into the Smith Correctional Facility on several felony charges to include:

Felon in possession of a firearm
Gang member in possession of ammunition
Carrying a loaded firearm
Carrying a concealed firearm with prior felony convictions
Possession of Stolen property”
