A local transient was arrested on August 31 for vandalism and assault on an officer.

It started when the IT manager for the city of Hollister reported that “electronic equipment and part of the city camera system” had been vandalized again for the second time in August to the tune of $1,300.

Video footage caught the suspect doing his damage after midnight on August 30.

The investigating officer recognized 26-year-old Raymundo Lucas Lucatero Jr. as the suspect.

The day after the vandalism, the officer saw Lucatero at a parking structure.

As the officer spoke with and then tried to take the suspect into custody, he pulled away, pushed the officer and then swung a “five foot long bamboo staff” at the officer.

The deploying of a Taser did not faze Lucatero, who then tried to run away. The pursuing officer caught him but that didn’t yet convince the suspect to surrender. Other arriving officers helped him to finally be taken into custody.

“Lucatero was booked on the charges of felony vandalism, two counts of burglary, assault with a deadly weapon, battery on a police officer, possession of a controlled substance and possession of burglary tools. He is also suspected in a previous vandalism that occurred at the same location on August 18th and is being investigated in connection to another downtown business burglary.”
