The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office reported the arrest of 21 people for unemployment fraud –

“$250K in fraudulent State of California Employment Development Department unemployment payments were discovered by SMCSO and District Attorney’s investigators using inmate information.

Multiple arrest and search warrants caught 21 people responsible for 16 fraudulent claims using 30 different inmates’ personal information to claim unemployment while they are incarcerated.

$150k cash was recovered during the search warrants and we are looking into the other funds.”
