Fatal Hit and Run in Hotel Parking Lot, Suspect Arrested

A man was arrested after allegedly hitting and killing a pedestrian with his vehicle in the parking lot of a Laguna Hills hotel, then fleeing the scene.

The hit and run occurred on Thursday, July 16, 2020, at The Hills Hotel located at 25205 La Paz Road. The suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Andrew Austin Arbuckle of Mission Viejo, was driving a pickup truck when he struck the victim. He fled eastbound on La Paz Road before police and medics arrived.

The victim, a male in his 20’s, was given medical aid and then transported to a local hospital. Sadly, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased that evening.

Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Department Major Accident Reconstruction Team (MART) were later able to identify and locate the suspect. At about 2:30 pm on Saturday, July 18th, they arrested him in Mission Viejo.

Arbuckle was charged with felony hit and run causing death and driving on a suspended license. He is being held at Orange County Jail on $200,000 bail.
