A man was arrested for robbery after trying to steal a basket full of groceries from a Von’s Supermarket in Rancho Cucamonga.

The incident took place at the Von’s Supermarket located at 8778 19th Street. Loss prevention officers reported the robbery to Rancho Cucamonga police at about 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2020.

The suspect, identified as 27-year-old Alexander Carter of Rancho Cucamonga, allegedly “walked out of the store without paying for a basket full of groceries,” according to the release. “When Carter was confronted, he pushed the basket into the loss prevention officers,” engaged in a “brief struggle” with them, then fled the scene in a vehicle.

Officers were able to get the vehicle’s license plate number and subsequently found Carter at a friend’s house close to the Von’s. “When deputies arrived at the location, they saw Carter inside the home and took him into custody.”

Carter was arrested for robbery and booked at the West Valley Detention Center on $100,000 bail.
