RICHMOND — A suspect was arrested the same day a man was fatally shot inside a car parked in a residential neighborhood. Detectives located and arrested the suspect at a commuter parking lot about five miles away.

Officers responded to an alert from the city’s gunfire detection system on July 11 shortly before 1 a.m. A victim of multiple gunshot wounds was located on the 200 block of South Third Street.

The severely wounded man was found lying in a pool of blood. The victim, a 27- year-old resident of Richmond, Juan C. Valdovinos was pronounced dead at the scene. He was known to the police because he was arrested numerous times by Richmond PD.

Apparently, the victim was with a group of individuals inside a vehicle when an argument started. As the dispute became more heated it took a deadly turn.

At one point, the suspect allegedly jumped out of the vehicle and began shooting a firearm directly at the victim. The suspect immediately fled from the crime scene.

The perpetrator believed responsible for this killing is Richmond resident 27-year- old Jacinto Chavarria. Richmond detectives found him sitting inside a car at a parking lot at the El Cerrito Plaza BART train station.

Chavarria was transported and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. He remains there in custody in lieu of $1 million bond. His charge is murder.
