Sonora man arrested after allegedly holding caregiver hostage

A 75-year-old Sonora man has been arrested after allegedly holding his caregiver hostage with her own gun.

Around 7:30 PM on Tuesday, July 12, dispatch received a call from a residence on Dapple Gray Way in Cedar Ridge. The reporting party, who was also the alleged victim, said that the man she was caretaking for had taken her .38 revolver, pointed it at her, and threatened to kill her.

Deputies responded and established a perimeter around the residence, all while maintaining contact with the victim, and were eventually able to get her out of the house safely.

SWAT and Crisis Negotiation personnel also responded to the scene, at which point the suspect — Donald Jacobsen — came outside and walked up to the street, all the while refusing to comply with commands to put his hands up. Deputies say he then pulled the .38 from his back pocket and, rather than set it on the ground as instructed, set it on top of a nearby garbage bin.

When he started to walk away again, deputies were able to take him into custody without further incident. He has since been booked at the county jail on suspicion of false imprisonment with violence, criminal threats, felony resisting arrest, and brandishing a firearm.
