Chico man accused of brandishing gun during road rage incident

“On 07-03-2020 at approximately 3:15 pm, Chico Police Dispatch received a call of a road rage incident near the intersection of W. 5th Street and Walnut Street.

The victim said that during the incident, the suspect had pointed a handgun at him. The suspect then fled the scene in his vehicle, but not before the victim was able to provide the vehicle’s license plate to the police dispatcher.

Officers arrived in the area of the incident and began to check the address where the vehicle was registered. The vehicle was described as a 2010 Volkswagen.

Chico PD officers, assisted by Butte County Sheriff’s deputies, located the suspect vehicle near the intersection of El Monte Drive and E. 8th Street. A vehicle enforcement stop was conducted near the intersection of Forest Avenue and E. 8th Street.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Chad Frye age 22 of Chico, was detained without incident. The victim was able to positively identify Frye as the suspect involved in the brandishing. A search of the vehicle resulted in a realistic replica firearm inside the vehicle.

Frye was placed under arrest for 417.4 PC, Brandishing a Fictitious Weapon with the Intent to Threaten. Frye was then transported to BC Jail for the above charge.”
