A robbery and car-jacking report was made to Merced Police Department the afternoon of May 22, 2020.

The reporting party detailed they had been assaulted, robbed, and carjacked at gun point on the 1300 block of West 16th Street.

The victim reported of the 3-5 suspects, one was armed. They took the victim’s wallet, cell phone, and made off in the victim’s car.

Merced Police Department Traffic Division located the car a few hours later at 1346 West Main Street.

Officers approached the vehicle and as they did, 2 male juveniles – ages 16 and 17 – made a run for it. They were apprehended and arrested shortly after.

A third suspect, 20-year old Zachary Richardson, was found taking a nap in the passenger seat of the stolen car. He was awoken from his slumber and arrested.

One of the juveniles was found in possession of the victim’s American Express credit card. On his person, Richardson had several of the victim’s credit cards and their California driver’s license. The handgun was located in the car and determined to be a replica.

All three suspects confirmed their involvement. The juveniles were booked into the Merced Juvenile Hall for robbery, carjacking, auto theft, and conspiracy. Richardson was booked into Merced County Jail for the same charges.

A possible fourth suspect, a white female in her mid to late 20s, remains outstanding.
