A Kings County man was arrested and issued multiple felony firearm citations last week.

According to a press release by the Sheriff’s Department, around 9:30 PM on Wednesday, May 6, a deputy came across a vehicle parked near the intersection of 21st and Laurel Avenues in a rural part of the county.

The lone occupant, identified as 40-year-old Leonel Avalos, reportedly asked for a ride to town while exhibiting strange behavior, prompting the deputy to search the car.

The search turned up a loaded 9mm Star handgun with the serial number filed off under the seat — which authorities say had a round in the chamber and was ready to fire — as well as suspected methamphetamine and a smoking pipe.

Leonel was taken into custody but later released under the $0 bail provision. He has nonetheless been cited for three felony violations of carrying a loaded firearm, obliteration of identification marks on a firearm, and possession of drugs with a loaded firearm.
