Man accused of assaulting other man for wearing too much cologne

A Ukiah man has been arrested after allegedly berating and assaulting another man for wearing too much cologne.

Just before 10 PM on March 28, Mendocino County deputies arrived on the 1400 block of South State Street to find an adult male on the ground bleeding from a laceration to the head.

The man told them he’d gotten into an argument with 57-year-old Jay Michael Hire after taking a shower at Hire’s home. Hire had apparently gotten angry with him for putting on too much cologne.

When the victim tried to leave, Hire reportedly picked up a cinderblock-style concrete brick and threw it at the victim’s head.

Deputies then went to Hire’s residence and, after corroborating the information, took him into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon.
