Modesto PD homicide detectives have charged 30-year-old Mario Trevino Jr. of Salida in connection to the fatal shooting of his uncle.

Around 7:30 PM on Wednesday, March 25, police arrived at a home on the 2400 block of Glendale Avenue, where 39-year-old Ernest Trevino had reportedly been shot. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On Tuesday, March 31, detectives identified Trevino Jr. as the primary suspect.

As it turned out, he was already in custody. He’d been arrested during a traffic stop on March 26th after a loaded firearm was found in the vehicle he was riding in. Due to prior felony convictions, he is bound to strict legal stipulations that he cannot own or possess firearms.

Trevino Jr. has now been formally charged with murder, though a motive for the shooting has yet to be determined.
