U.S. Border Patrol agents have arrested a man and a woman after finding bundles of fentanyl hidden in their vehicle, according to a press release.

Just before 12:30 PM on March 24, a man driving a grey Audi A4 approached the Interstate 8 checkpoint near Pine Valley. The vehicle was referred for secondary inspection after a canine team alerted to the presence of possible narcotics.

The occupants, a 29-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, were escorted from the vehicle.

Agents then searched the vehicle and found two wrapped packages in a false compartment next to the battery. Both tested positive for fentanyl.

Officials say the packages weighed about 9.97 pounds and would fetch an estimated a street value of around $113,000.

The man and woman, both U.S. citizens, and the narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
