14-year-old female runaway caught in residential burglary

Her’s a story from the Salinas Police Department about a 14-year-old female runaway who was caught in a residential burglary –

“On March 21, 2020 at approximately 12:20 am, the homeowner at a residence in the 400 block of Tudor Ave was awakened by the sound of someone in the downstairs portion in their home.

The homeowner determined the noises were not from their children and called 911. The homeowner was able to provide the dispatcher updates as officers arrived and set a perimeter around the residence.

The homeowner advised dispatch the suspect was coming up the stairs. As the officers were about to make entry into the house, the suspect opened the front door. Officers confronted a 14-year-old female, who was quickly taken into custody without incident.

It was discovered the suspect had gained entry by using a pry bar to open the living room window of the residence. Once inside, she found a purse and began to take items. The suspect was found to be in possession of car keys, credit cards, and a pair of Apple Air pods, all belonging to the homeowner.

The 14-year-old suspect was found to be a runaway and was eventually transported to Monterey County Juvenile Hall. She was lodged for Burglary and Possession of Stolen Property.”
