On March 9, 2020, employees of Visalia’s East Noble Walmart location stopped two individuals from stealing from the garden department.

The would-be shoplifters did not take this well. The following day, from a passing vehicle, a flare gun was shot into the garden department, startling customers and employees alike.

Visalia Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit were called to the scene to investigate. Employers told detectives about the recent alteration with the two suspects, later identified as Miguel Ayalla, 38, and Amanda Jaramillo, 37.

On March 29, 2020 Ayalla and Jaramillo were found and arrested at a residence on the 300 block of North Hall. Ayalla was taken down by a Police K9 unit after a failed attempt to run from police.

At the time of this writing, both are in custody at the Bob Wiley Detention Facility. Ayalla’s bail is set at $255,000.

He may be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest, possession of burglary tools, and unlawful possession of paraphernalia for smoking. Jaramillo’s bail is set at $200,000. She may be charged with arson causing injury and assault with a deadly weapon.
