On March 23, 2020, a woman hiding in the bushes of a backyard’s residence on the 4500 block of Central Avenue prompted a call to Riverside Police.

When officers found her, they saw she had been visibly injured and her arm was fractured. Detectives of the Domestic Violence – Elder Abuse Unit were called to further look into the case after initial investigation determined her son had attacked her.

The victim’s son fled the scene before police arrived but follow-ups made by detectives indicated they were looking for a suspect with a possible narcotics habit who was in possession of several illegal firearms. He was considered dangerous and unstable.

Three days later police were called to the 6700 block of Fig Street regarding an erratic individual. Police made contact with the subject and while doing a record’s check with the Public Safety Communication Center, the name of the individual, Shane Lastique, was recognized by dispatchers as the same name of the suspect who attacked his mother three days prior. Detectives confirmed 38-year old Lastique was their suspect and he was placed under arrest.

Lastique was arrested for false imprisonment, battery, causing serious injury, elder abuse, criminal threats, vandalism, and weapons violations. After his arrest police searched his car and found a loaded .357 caliber handgun, two pellet guns, two machetes, several folding and fixed knives, and ammunition for a 12 gauge shotgun.

Lastique was booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center where he remains in custody with bail set at $350,000.

After Lastique’s booking the West Post Release Accountability & Compliance Team searched his home where they found an AK-47 and ammunition. Lastique is prohibited from owning or possessing weapons and ammunition because of a prior conviction.
