Hollister Police have arrested a man in connection to a recent vehicle theft.

The investigation began on February 28 when the department received a report of a theft from an unlocked vehicle in front of a house in the area of Valencia Drive. The victim told officers a laptop and other items had been taken. Luckily, another nearby resident provided officers with surveillance footage depicting a person of interest.

The footage was circulated on social media and within the community, which quickly led to a number of leads identifying 39-year-old Jose Romero as a possible suspect.

On March 5, police executed a search warrant for Romero’s home on the 700 block of Le Mans Drive, locating some of the items from the Valencia Drive theft.

Romero was arrested and booked at the San Benito County Jail on suspicion of grand theft and receiving stolen property.
