“On February 22, 2020, at approximately 9:27 PM a Porterville Police officer on routine patrol was travelling eastbound on Olive Avenue approaching Highway 65. At this time a silver 2000 Honda Accord, travelling westbound on Olive Avenue made an unsafe left turn in front of the marked patrol vehicle, causing both vehicles to collide. The force of the collision sent the patrol vehicle into a light standard where it came to rest on the south sidewalk of Olive Avenue however the Honda fled the scene southbound on Highway 65. The officer operating the patrol vehicle sustained minor injuries, however he refused medical treatment at the scene.

Evidence left at the scene identified the driver of the Honda as Jorge Salas out of Lindsay. It was also determined that Salas had a suspended driver’s license due to a prior DUI and was required to operate vehicles equipped with an Ignition Interlock Device. Additionally, Salas was found to have an active misdemeanor arrest warrant for a prior assault.

At about 11:52 P.M. officers located Salas at a residence in the 800 block of South Western Avenue where he was arrested without incident. Officers also located the Honda abandoned in the parking lot of Lowe’s where it was seized for evidence.

Salas was later booked into Tulare County Sheriff’s Department South County Detention Facility where he is being held in lieu of $70,000 bail.”
