Stealing ice cream with a knife becomes robbery arrest

This press release was posted on Chico Police Departments offiial Facebook page about a man who stole some ice cream and produced a knife when confronted  about it. He was later arrested –

“On 02-07-2020 at approximately 11:30 pm, CPD officers were dispatched to a report of an armed robbery that had just occurred at the Seven Eleven, 1111 Forest Avenue. Officers arrived on scene and learned an unidentified suspect had fled from the business on foot prior to officers arriving on scene.

During the investigation, it was learned the unidentified suspect had taken an ice cream desert from inside the business and attempted to leave the business without paying for it.

When an employee working at the business confronted the suspect regarding the theft, the suspect brandished a knife at the employee. The store employee was not hurt during the incident and the suspect fled on foot. Officers began checking the surrounding areas for the suspect.

Officers located a subject who matched the description near the corner of E. 8th St. and Forest Ave. The subject, later identified as Jeffry Williams, age 37 of Chico, was detained without further incident.

Williams was positively identified as the suspect by a business employee. At the time of the arrest, Williams was still in possession of the fixed blade knife and the ice cream from the business.

Williams was placed under arrest for Robbery. Williams is also currently on Parole out of California for a weapons offense. Williams also had an outstanding warrant for a Parole Violation. Williams was ultimately transported to the Butte County Jail.”
