Winters man convicted of inflicting corporal injury in brutal assault of girlfriend

A Winters man has been convicted of inflicting corporal injury and false imprisonment, among other charges, in connection to a violent incident in April of last year.

On April 4, 2019, 47-year-old Jesus Luis Reyes had driven to an apartment complex with his girlfriend when he reportedly punched, slapped, and head-butted her. She tried to get out of the car, but he pulled her back in and tried to drive away.

A mother and son at the scene witnessed the attack and tried to intervene. They called police but Reyes had fled with the victim before they arrived, telling the mother and son, “You don’t tell anyone.”

Fortunately, the two witnesses were able to get Reyes’ plate number. Police also caught up with Reyes’ girlfriend, who was actively bleeding from her face, around two hours later. Reyes had barricaded himself in his home and lied about where his girlfriend was, but police could see her hiding in the home.

Reyes was convicted on January 30, 2020.
