A Pacifica man has been arrested on suspicion of armed attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon after an incident in the area of Mike Fox Park in Santa Cruz on January 21.

According to an official press release, officers responded to the park at 225 San Lorenzo Boulevard around 1 AM just in time to witness a disturbance between three subjects. A single gunshot was heard and one of the subjects fled. The other two, one of which was determined to have been the victim of an attempted robbery, remained at the scene. Fortunately, no one had been injured.

Police soon identified Ryan McAuliffe as the primary suspect and took him into custody on suspicion of attempted robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, possession of marijuana for sales, possession of large-capacity magazines, and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

A second suspect, 22-year-old Dillon Mahoney (also of Pacifica), was taken into custody on suspicion of possession of marijuana for sales, possession of unlawful drug paraphernalia, and possession of controlled substances.

Both are now housed at the Santa Cruz County Jail.

Police also recovered a loaded unregistered firearm, unregistered firearm components, several large-capacity rifle and pistol magazines, and a large amount of marijuana (all pictured above) from a vehicle associated with the crime.
