A Monterey County man has been arrested after reportedly being caught in a stolen vehicle and briefly fighting with the officer who spotted him.

A Salinas police officer came across 29-year-old David Hernandez sitting in a stolen vehicle in the Pilot gas station parking lot just before midnight on January 18. Though Hernandez immediately got out of the car, police say he refused the officer’s commands and a brief struggle ensued.

Nonetheless, Hernandez was taken into custody and the vehicle returned to its original owner.

Hernandez faces charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and probation violation.
