Man shot at Red Lion Inn in apparent drug deal gone wrong

REDDING – The Red Lion Inn and Suites at 536 Cypress Avenue was the scene on the evening of January 8th of a shooting.

The victim had been shot in the stomach and was loaded into a car and taken to the hospital. Sure enough, a gunshot vicitm had been taken to Mercy Hospital.

Officers went to both the hotel and the hospital to investigate.

39-year-old Udom Chao had in fact not been shot in the stomach, but rather has “through and through” shots to both of his legs. The injuries as are not life-threatening.

The victim was not cooperative with police and actually gave them false information.

Investigators at the hotel found a shell casing, blood and marijuana at the room where the shooting occurred.

On surveillance video, a black man points a gun at two Asian males. Then the suspect flees in a vehicle.

The Redding Police Department says, “The suspect is described as an African American male in his late thirties to early forties, wearing a white shirt, blue jeans, and black shoes. The vehicle he escaped in is a blue or gray 2011 Ford Fusion bearing California license plate 7UHH373. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous, he should not be approached.”
