A body was discovered on December 26 near the railroad tracks about .3 mile east of the Andesite Railroad Crossing near Military Pass Road.

The investigation revealed that the victim sustained head injuries and was probably riding the southbound train before he died.

The victim was identified as 50-year-old Pasadena resident David Rivas, who according to his last contact with his family was attempting to travel home from North Dakota.

The Siskiyou County Sheriff’s Office says, “An autopsy was conducted, but investigators are awaiting toxicology results and conducting further investigation before a cause and manner of death are determined in the case. The autopsy confirmed the decedent was not the victim of a gunshot wound and thus far, no evidence of a felonious assault has been reasonably substantiated by investigators.”
