A man has been arrested in Siskiyou County after reportedly being caught with drugs and a samurai sword during a traffic stop.

On the morning of Monday, December 23, a Siskiyou County deputy arrived in Happy Camp to investigate a report of a man making criminal threats. After about twenty minutes, at Doolittle Street near the Post Office, he pulled over a vehicle believed to be driven by the man in question.

The individual, identified as 49-year-old David Lee McBurney, turned out to be on Post-Release Community Supervision and hadn’t contacted his probation officer since November 1, 2019.

The deputy searched his vehicle and turned up a samurai sword, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia including a pipe and hypodermic syringe.

McBurney was arrested on suspicion of illegal possession of a sword, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia, and booked at the Siskiyou County Jail.
