The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has announced the arrest of a 23-year-old father in connection to the April 2018 death of his infant son.

Jesse Ashton faces charges of murder and assault resulting in the death of a child in the case of 22-month-old Bradley Reynolds, who died on April 15, 2018.

Ashton was originally arrested on April 19, 2018, on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, but bailed out of jail. The lack of evidence at the time also prevented the District Attorney’s Office from filing charges, as a comprehensive autopsy report was not made available for several months.

Nonetheless, detectives and investigators from the DA’s Office continued on and eventually conducted a review of the pathology report in mid-November of this year.

On December 2, additional evidence allowed authorities to secure a warrant for Ashton’s arrest.

Almost 20 months after Bradley’s death, Ashton turned himself in and was booked on charges of murder and assault.
