Officers visit elementary school to promote safety

Here’s a good news story from Glenn County

“Today was the 13th of the 2nd annual series of the LEARN WITH A LEO event at Mill Street. School!

Every Wednesday before school starts from 8:00 – 8:20 AM a LEO (Law Enforcement Officer or partnering agency) will come read a book or two to the TK-2nd graders. CHP – Willows Officer Kevin Baxter read to a cozy group of 25 kids in Room 13 today due to rainy day activities in the library.

The kids discussed driver and bicyclist safety and the importance of following road regulations, which can save lives. The students knew that drivers can make good decisions while driving safely by not speeding, not to touch their cell phone, and to always wear seat belts.

Similarly, Officer Baxter urged the students to always wear helmets when riding bicycles, skateboards or scooters. He shared that he had a crash on a bicycle and wearing a helmet saved his life! His favorite color is green. Officer Baxter read Merry Christmas, Splat. #LearnwithaLEO #readingclub #knowledgeispower #alwayswearahelmet #roadsafety”
