The evening of November 12th, 40-year old Brandy Whittenburg was observed driving erratically, crashing into stationary barriers in the parking lot of the Applegate’s Market in Porterville.

Her kids were in the car with her. A call was made to Porterville Police to investigate. While police were on their way, concerned citizens were able to remove the two children, ages 6 months and 2 years, from the vehicle, and take possession of her keys.

Upon arriving, police determined Whittenburg was under the influence of alcohol and she was arrested without resisting. However, she assaulted an officer while she was being booked into the Tulare County Sheriff’s South County Detention Center.

The officer was not injured. Her children were also not physically injured but were placed in the custody of Tulare County Welfare Services.

Whittenburg could be charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, child endangerment, and battery on a peace officer. Her bail was set at $100,000.
