Teenager Arrested 3 Times in 6 months Now Faces Charges for Carjacking

FREMONT — A 19-year-old woman arrested three times in the past six months now faces charges for carjacking and vehicle theft. A male accomplice who participated with her in a violent carjacking is still being sought.
This carjacking occurred October 28 at 10:20 a.m., outside a business on the 47500 block of Seabridge Drive. The victim had just returned to her delivery vehicle, when two menacing individuals approached.

The woman arrested is accused of dragging another woman out of the vehicle. Next, she and a male accomplice allegedly violently beat the victim, before stealing her vehicle.
The victim was pummeled with large rocks, her hair pulled, and slammed face down into gritty asphalt. She was left stranded suffering from undisclosed injuries.
The suspect later identified as a transient, Naomi A. Melendez climbed into the passenger seat. A male accompanying her got in the driver’s seat, and together they drove away.
Information about the stolen vehicle was entered into a law enforcement database. The vehicle was spotted by surveillance cameras entering Daly City on November 3. Daly City officers intercepted it near the intersection of Mission Street and Citrus Drive.
Melendez who was driving was one of three occupants detained, until Fremont officers arrived and took custody of her. Two other individuals with Melendez were questioned and released.
Melendez is presently housed at Santa Rita Jail, pending a pre-trial hearing on November 18. Incidentally, she has prior arrests for carrying a loaded firearm in May and shoplifting in June.
The other male suspect remains at-large and Fremont police have released video images of both suspects recorded near the scene of the crime.
He is described as Hispanic, late teens or early 20s. He has short hair and a stocky build. During the carjacking, he was wearing a dark sweatshirt tied around a yellow T-shirt, dark pants and white sneakers.
